Dog Training

Welcome to All Aspect Dog Training.

Seaside

Following on from the front page, this is Toby, our rescue Labrador. He was just over 2 when we took him on, and was bouncing off the walls. He pulled like a train on the lead, barked at the doorbell, jumped at visitors, and had no manners around other dogs.

While I have always had good results, most of it came from books. With the advent of the internet, there are almost countless resources these days, so I started to update my knowledge, however I found a lot of conflicting information. It's not always a good thing to have the internet, trying to sort out what was good information from what wasn't took quite a lot of effort. I thought about undertaking a course, and the catalyst was really when some of the local people who had seen the progress I'd made with Toby asked if I could help with their dogs. This led to me signing up with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) and undertaking a whole programme of courses to gain a qualification in dog training. I started this with the intention of upgrading my knowledge, but it has expanded into a whole new career.

I selected the IMDT as their code of conduct matches my own ethos. The latest research (I say latest, it's actually over several decades now, so quite established) looks at ways of encouraging a dog to behave in ways that are more aligned with the way humans view things by way of positive reinforcement, and not by punishment. I much prefer this approach, although there are still people who talk about pack leadership, and that the human needs to be the alpha dog. Ultimately, until Toby can use the phone, and my credit card, food comes from me, so that's as much dominance as is required really.

I will be running group sessions after April, and until then would be happy to speak to you about your requirements, and undertake 1:1 sessions. I am located in Petersfield, but I can travel up to an hour to see you.
